Salt corrosion testing reduces the risk of product failure in the field by simulating equipment's ability to withstand the effects of corrosion and to give a general indication of corrosion resistance.
Often the salt corrosion test specification requires either a drying phase or high humidity phase. These phases accelerate the corrosion effects and can promote corrosion which may not otherwise be seen.
The test is performed in a specialist salt fog chamber. The chamber atomises a salt water solution creating a fog and leaving salt deposits around the equipment under test. TÜV SÜD engineers carefully monitor the salt fog environment, ensuring that the correct salt density, pH, deposition rate and temperature are maintained.
