The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 22nd May 2014 and will supersede the Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (R&TTE) Directive on 13th June 2016. European Union member states have the two years up to 12th June 2016 to transpose the Directive into national law. All products placed on the market within the scope of the RED must be compliant with the Radio Equipment Directive after the end of the transition period (June 2017).
