Faster registration of Medical Devices
At the VII Astana Economic Forum, held from May 21 to 23, 2014 in Astana, Kazakhstan, TÜV SÜD Product Service and the Kazakhstan Ministry of Health signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) over future collaboration in the registration of Medical Devices. Kazakhstan′s government wants to facilitate and speed up the import of Medical Devices to give the people of Kazakhstan fast access to state-of-the-art medical technology. TÜV SÜD is to help in the development of new processes that will enable products such as those with the CE 0123 marking to be approved within only five days.
Small market, but no easy access
With a population of only 17 million and a complex and long-winded registration process, Kazakhstan is at first glance not necessarily one of the most attractive markets for Medical Device manufacturers. On the other hand, however, Kazakhstan has few domestic Medical Device manufacturers and is therefore highly dependent on imports to ensure adequate medical care. Given this, Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of Kazakhstan, now intends to make his country more attractive to renowned international manufacturers by simplifying the registration scheme accordingly and significantly shortening the length of the registration process.
TÜV SÜD to support the authorities
As a representative of TÜV SÜD, Georg Bauer was also invited to the three-day conference and the parallel consultations at Kazakhstan′s Ministry of Health. At a press conference he informed about TÜV SÜD and the EU′s system of registration, which could serve as a role model for possible new regulations in Kazakhstan. The exchange of information and experience agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding and the associated training courses organized by TÜV SÜD will aim to help Kazakhstan′s authorities in the development and organization of a new system.
