Ecuador: Safety regulations

Ecuador has issued technical regulations for skin care and hair care appliances, RTE INEN 179, Resolution 14358, 2014, which will come into force on 7 November 2014. These technical regulations contain requirements for electrical, domestic or similar appliances such as hair curling tongs, rollers, rollers with separate heaters, curlers with removable heaters, hair dryers, and hand dryers. The regulations also apply to equipment used for animal grooming.
Regulated appliances must comply with Standards IEC 60335-1 and IEC 60335-2-23. The appliances must also be clearly marked with the following:
- Manufacturers name or logo
- Number of the model or series
- Voltage range
- Power output
- Country of origin
The national standards Body (INEN) will revisit and reassess this standard within a period of no more than five years.
