UAE: Mandatory energy label for refrigerators and washing machines
As confirmed by ESMA (Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology), effective from 1 July 2014, all refrigerators in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are required to have energy efficiency labelling. The effective date for mandatory energy efficiency labelling of washing machine was originally in November 2013, but is now 1 April 2014 following adjustments. UAE.S 5010-3:2013 is the UAE regulation for Household Refrigerating Appliances – which covers household refrigerators and freezers. The UAE.S 5010-2:2012 is for household clothes washing machines and dryers.
The certification process for refrigerators and washing machines remains the same. Applications need to be submitted to ESMA’s office, either in Dubai or in Abu Dhabi, along with the IEC CB test reports or 3rd party issued performance test reports for all models being applied. A valid UAE trade license is also a requirement.
If the applicant wishes TÜV SÜD to apply on their behalf, an authorisation letter must be provided. Processing time in UAE is approximately 3 to 5 days, provided that all required documents are submitted.
