Cape Wind, the leading offshore wind developer in the U.S. has signed a Consulting Services Agreement with the North America division of PMSS – one of Europe’s most respected offshore wind consulting firms, and a part of the TÜV SÜD group.
Under the agreement, PMSS will assist Cape Wind with a team of experts and know-how to supplement the already strong capability of the Cape Wind project management team. The PMSS staff will be a collaboration of both U.S. engineers and consultants and U.K. offshore wind experts, and will provide industry leading expertise in Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), Quality Assurance, Risk Management and other strategic advice.
Today’s announcement follows the recent financing milestone, when Cape Wind signed a term sheet to engage The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ as its Coordinating Lead Arranger of the commercial bank portion of the total debt financing for the 468MW offshore wind farm.
“We are tremendously pleased to be assisting Cape Wind with the realization of North America’s first commercial scale offshore wind energy project. Cape Wind is the flag-ship U.S. project, has an outstanding project team, and we are thrilled to be part of the team on the ramp-up to financial close and into construction”, said Sebastian Chivers, senior vice-president at PMSS and head of the firm’s New York City offices.
“We are pleased to bring PMSS and their offshore wind experience onboard to help make Cape Wind a success. PMSS will also further facilitate the transfer of knowledge and experience to the U.S. that is required to build a domestic offshore wind industry”, said Jim Gordon, President of Cape Wind.
Cape Wind expects to complete project financing and begin construction by the end of the year.
