TÜV SÜD Limited in the UK have achieved BIM Level 2 Certification from the British Standards Institute for the delivery of BIM Level 2 project information across our 14 regional offices in compliance with PAS1192. This is the standard that was developed by the UK BIM Task Group and is designed to provide standardisation for Building Information Modelling (BIM) throughout the UK.
The UK Government mandate introduced BIM in April 2016 as a means of cutting overall construction costs by up to 33% through reducing in‐efficiencies in the construction process.
To remain in the vanguard of industry developments TÜV SÜD Limited recruited an experienced BIM Manager to lead the development of our BIM strategy and implementation of Building Information Modelling, standardising digital engineering across the business.
Obtaining certification provides our customers with confidence and peace of mind that we have the competence, necessary processes, procedures and documentation in place to successfully deliver BIM Level 2 projects in compliance with PAS1192.
Commenting on the award, Allan McGill, Managing Director of TÜV SÜD Limited in the UK said “We are delighted to have achieved this industry recognised standard and it is testament to the hard work of all our teams. TÜV SÜD Limited have always adopted a collaborative approach to the projects we work on; Building Information Modelling promotes more effective collaboration with all disciplines of the design team and with contractors to deliver a higher quality finished product for our customers”.
The 3D Virtual Construction Model allows the project design team to visualise and evaluate our designs for best practises, buildability, access requirements and co‐ordination allowing the optimal solution to be provided for the facility being served. Models are then clash detected to provide a collision free workable design. This in turn reduces abortive time and waste materials on site, ultimately resulting in a faster more efficient project delivery.
Building Information Modelling allows us to combine the expertise and resource of all design team members regardless of geographical location and allows multiple users to work upon a model at any one time. TÜV SÜD Limited has 25 dedicated BIM technicians and 30 Engineers currently trained in BIM Level 2 and we have a continuous training programme in place. Only a limited number of Consultancies in the UK have acquired BIM Level 2 certification from the British Standards Institute.
