First large scale development to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4
MEP, Energy & Sustainability
The ‘Athletes' Village’ is part of the Stratford City mixed use development and was used to house athletes during the 2012 London Olympics before being converted for ‘private’ and ‘affordable’ residential use.
TÜV SÜD were appointed in 2007 and provided concept design input across the village and detailed design purchases for nearly 50% of the residential units, some 1250 dwellings as well as a state of the art polyclinic and an academy school.
Applying innovative engineering solutions and optimising use of the low carbon district heating infrastructure has ensured that the Athletes' Village is a benchmark for sustainable design. It was the first large scale development to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4. Sophisticated computer generated simulation modelling tailored each building’s energy performance in a passive manner integrating seamlessly with each of the dynamic services elements such as whole house ventilation delivering heat recovery and free night-time cooling.
