TÜV SÜD Real Estate were appointed to carry out the role of Building Services Engineers. The original leisure centre consisted of basically three separate buildings, a swimming pool, ice rink and a sports hall all built at different times and connected by a common entrance.
This refurbishment project ensured the sustainability of the facility by the provision of additional and enhanced facilities. The internal spaces were rationalised to allow the building to work as a whole rather than a variety of separated activities.
The former ice rink was redeveloped to seamlessly integrate a new Adult Day Care Centre and state of the art Fitness Suite. The swimming pool area was refurbished to provide a bright and airy space with new water features including wave machine and flume. New dance studios, fitness suites and sports hall were developed as part of the refurbishment and remodelling.
The challenges which are associated with refurbishment and extension of existing facilities were incorporated within the internal briefing of this project to ensure that the proposed services solution started from a point of informed knowledge.
