The Li Ka Shing Centre houses Cancer Research UK’s Cambridge Research Institute. The commission was for the design of the building services for the new medical research facility along with associated site infrastructure.
Located on the Addenbrooke’s Hospital site, Cambridge, the development houses 30,000 square metres of research space and is one of the largest centres for cancer research in Europe.
The Institute is a unique partnership between the University of Cambridge and Cancer Research UK. It is a dedicated to state-of-the-art research into the causes of cancer, and developing new treatments and bringing them to the clinicians to benefit cancer patients.
A two-stage tendering procurement route was used on this project. The first phase appointment was for an initial 14,000 square metres of new Category II and III flexible laboratory spaces, a 200-seat lecture theatre and dining facilities.
