MEP, Energy & Sustainability
TÜV SÜD Real Estate were appointed for a new Pupil Referral Unit as part of a £140M redevelopment programme for the London Borough of Islington.
The school includes significant passive design measures, including highly insulated modular framing system that achieved U-values of 0.17wm/2K. An air permeability rate of 2.9m3/h/m2 @ 50Pa was achieved representing a building with minimal heat losses. Heat is provided by highly efficient Gas-Fired Condensing Boilers, provided by discreet radiators within classrooms. Ventilation is provided by a mixed mode system which incorporates heat recovery. Windows are further openable to 100mm to provide rapid ventilation. All measures contributed to a 10% reduction from Part L 2010 Building Regulations, a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating and a good ‘B’ EPC rating.
We undertook continued analysis of the energy consumption of the building post occupancy, representing our continued commitment to sustainable design solutions.
