TÜV SÜD Light Studio has recently been working on the regeneration of the main public shopping square at Southgate Bath. The main street lighting is being updated to the latest LED lighting bringing an end to the maintenance cycle, replacing the old metal halide technology which constantly needs replacing.
The main new focal point of the square is going to be a large 3m tall lantern. The intention for the lantern is to be a catalyst for local community, getting their input into the wording that could be used within the lantern to represent the local area.
Workshops were attended by over 60 local children contributing ideas towards the text that could be incorporated into the lantern. A 1:5 scale model was built to test the lighting, the words are recreated across the floor at night. Recently this has been tested on the full size structure.
