There are three main pieces of legislation that VT Transportation owners must adhere to;
Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER)
Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER).
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
As a lift owner, you are legally bound to ensure the safety of your lift and all lift passengers. It is the duty and responsibility of the lift owner to have their lift(s) thoroughly inspected as required by Regulation 9 of LOLER. It is also the duty of the lift owner to employ a competent person to undertake these inspections.
TÜV SÜD Dunbar Boardman will manage all regulatory inspections on your behalf. This requires passenger lifts to be inspected twice a year, and once a year for goods lifts.
Owners have a responsibility under the law to keep up to date with any changes that might affect their lift/escalator equipment. This is a highly specialised and sometimes complicated field through which TÜV SÜD Dunbar Boardman can provide expert guidance and support to ensure peace of mind and compliance.
The general duties imposed by The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 mean that owners are duty bound to keep their Vertical Transportation equipment in safe working order. This means you must arrange for regular equipment maintenance.
