Specify 9 lift installations which would be resistant to the rigours of student residences; provide Fire Fighting and Disabled Evacuation functions

The Park View Student Village project replaces the existing 1970s buildings in Richardson Road with six new blocks providing almost 1,300 ensuite bedrooms for future students. Demolition of the existing flats started in the summer of 2016 with the new halls set to open for students in September 2018. The project will also create associated infrastructure including a new energy centre for the village.
The buildings are predominantly prefabricated offsite modular construction, clad and finished with an external brickwork skin and glazed curtain walling system. The lower ground floors of the buildings are constructed traditionally from concrete though the finishes will reflect the modular part of the buildings.
TÜV SÜD Dunbar Boardman were employed by Newcastle University to specify the 9 lift installations which would be resistant to the rigours of student residences; provide Fire Fighting and Disabled Evacuation functions in accordance with the site wide campus strategy and at the same time provide efficient and aesthetic lift installations which can be quickly constructed to suit the modular building application.
