TÜV SÜD Dunbar Boardman were responsible for initial design of the lifts, full project management, CDM Designer duties and Witness Testing of the completed installations.
TÜV SÜD Dunbar Boardman has been collaborating with The Guinness Partnership to fully modernise/ refurbish the lifts in this complex in a phased programme over a number of years.
6 x passenger lifts received full refurbishment incorporating heavy-duty reliable equipment, whilst maintaining a complimentary aesthetic appearance.
The final stage of this project is to upgrade the original goods lifts. The initial concept at the time of build in the 1960s was for the goods lifts to carry milk floats at every level to deliver milk directly to the residents’ homes.
The heavy-duty design and original use is no longer relevant and as such these lifts located in the East & West wings have now been converted to spacious 42-person passenger-goods lifts incorporating 1400mm automatic door openings, which are Cat 2 vandal-resistant and 2-hour fire-rated. The focus of these lifts has now changed to provide vertical transportation for removals and delivery of household furnishing and goods.
All utilised equipment has a 20 – 25 year life expectancy and whilst robust in design, also maintains an appealing aesthetic appearance.
