State aid is available through the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) to SMEs who use qualifying testing, certification, training and knowledge services from TÜV SÜD Product Service.
Who is eligible for MAS support?
MAS’s services are available through approved suppliers to any company provided they are engaged in manufacturing in England regardless of size, but special funding is available to SMEs to reduce the cost of these services.
The definition of manufacturing:
According to the MAS Guidelines, "The modern definition of manufacturing is broad. The full cycle of activities from research, design and development, production, logistics, and service provision to end of life management."
By taking this approach to defining manufacturing, it becomes easier to see that although an organisation may choose to outsource its production activities, it remains at heart a manufacturing company.
Your company can call itself an SME if it:
Has less than 250 employees
Has an annual turnover of less than £40.5m or a balance sheet of less than £35m
Is not part of a group which in itself exceeds one of the criteria above
MAS aid for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises is State aid which is granted under the “aid for consultancy in favour of SMEs” provisions set out in the General Block Exemption Regulation (GBER) ((Regulation EC) 800/2008). As a MAS registered organization, TÜV SÜD Product Service can make a simple referral to MAS on behalf of a SME client for up to 50% funding towards the cost of a project which falls within its scope of activities (grant value of £300 - £3000).
Activities from TÜV SÜD which qualify for MAS Aid:
In order to get an application for funding approved, you must demonstrate that the work being carried out will contribute to significant business growth. MAS is here to support growth in England’s SME manufacturing sector – a project is much more likely to be approved if you can demonstrate potential for increased profits, new contracts or the creation of new jobs.
Access to grants to enable you to launch your product with reduced costs
Quick and simple process with minimal form-filling
Multiple projects for each applicant enable you to seek support for up to three significant projects every 12 months
