Density measurement is the link between mass and volume flowrate measurement in the oil industry and, as such, is fundamental to the commercial operation of facilities.
The UK regulator, the Oil & Gas Authority (OGA), Guidance Notes for Petroleum Measurement and the DECC Policy Statement on Densitometer Calibration recommend that all calibrations should be done simultaneously at their operating temperatures and pressures using fluids that cover actual density ranges.
NEL manages the only Densitometer Calibration Facility in the UK that allows densitometers to be calibrated at their anticipated operating conditions. The recently upgraded facility can calibrate a comprehensive range of meters including Micro Motion 7835 Series Density Meters, Micro Motion CDM100 meters and Sarasota Liquid Density Meters (910 series). The facility also allows NEL to test densitometers used with fluids with very low densities, for example units that operate on condensate wells.
