Applications for IMEI allocations are made on-line.
You must register your organisation before you can apply for an IMEI allocation (see New Company Registration). Following registration, you will be allocated a manufacturer's Organisation Code and password; these must be remembered for use in subsequent IMEI applications.
Please note that IMEI allocation is not equipment approval. An IMEI allocation does not mean that the equipment has been approved. IMEI ranges are allocated on request; evidence of compliance is not required for an IMEI allocation.
However, the equipment must meet the regulatory requirements of the intended markets and countries of use, for example.
Brand Name and Cosmetic variants of terminal apparatus manufactured by the same production facility may share a common IMEI block.
TÜV SÜD BABT reserves the right to refuse applications where there is a doubt as to the validity of the application. A rejected application may be re-submitted with additional information.
To apply for TAC (IMEI) applications please adhere to the following conditions:
- Where the brand name is different to the applicant company name, both the brand name and model name need to be entered into the marketing name field.
- That the number of TAC numbers requested is only enough to cover a three month production run. One TAC number (1 million IMEI numbers) is normally sufficient in most applications.
- An agent can apply on behalf of the brand name owner. However, a Letter of Authority from the brand name owner to the agent must be sent to TÜV SÜD BABT. This letter is only required once. An agent can be the OEM manufacturer or a test laboratory.
TÜV SÜD BABT and the GSM Association have the following policy regarding Dual (or Multi) SIM phones:
If each SIM is associated with its own transceiver, then each transceiver/SIM should have its own associated IMEI number. i.e., a dual SIM phone should have 2 IMEI numbers; a three SIM phone should have 3 IMEI numbers etc.
If each transceiver is identical, then they can share the same TAC number, but must have different IMEI numbers. If the transceivers are different (e.g. they operate on different band frequencies), then a different TAC number and a separate TAC application is required for each transceiver/SIM combination.
