Client: East Central Hub / Dundee City Council Project
Harris Academy is a key education project for East Central Hub and Dundee City Council with it having been taken to RIBA Stage F1 at this time. Harris Academy utilised BIM Level 2 designed in line with SFT Reference school requirements.
The innovative new building, which will accommodate 1200 pupils, will feature teaching spaces arranged across 4 levels, as well as a range of enhanced PE facilities, including a four court Games Hall, Gymnasium, Dance Studio, and Fitness Suite.
TÜV SÜD Wallace Whittle successfully performed the following roles; Building Services Engineers, BREEAM Assessor and Sustainability Consultants while also advising on such areas as Fire, Acoustics, FM, Life Cycle replacement and utilities.
A Very Good BREEAM rating and a ‘B+’ EPC energy rating were delivered for this school.
A key driver was to fall in line with the SFT Reference School programmes which required the overall cost / programmes targets to be achieved fully.
Taking account of the Councils estate wide strategy we were involved at the early stage of the project to determine such areas as orientation of the school, external wall and window materials, which then allowed us to minimise the building services solutions.
These solutions then got developed in conjunction with the rest of the design team to BIM Level 2, which resulted in a much more detailed product going to site and in turn reduced greatly site issues as such as clashes and special requirements.
