Park Mains is the flagship education project for Renfrewshire Council.
The innovative new building, which will accommodate 1400 pupils and 136 Staff over 15,000 msq, will feature teaching spaces arranged across 3 levels, as well as a range of enhanced PE facilities,
including a four court Games Hall, Gymnasium, Dance Studio, and Fitness Suite.
An excellent BREEAM rating and a ‘B’ EPC energy rating were delivered for this school.
A key driver was to fall in line with the councils own modernisation programme which required the overall estate energy usage to be reduced year on year.
As a design team we then worked hand in hand, mainly with the architect, to deliver a solution that was fully modelled via IES software to prove it was the most efficient solution available. Key services included biomass boilers, heat recovery, underfloor heating, energy management system and full building dynamic thermal modelling.
Taking account of the Councils estate wide strategy we were involved at the early stage of the project to determine such areas as orientation of the school, external wall and window materials, which then allowed us to minimise the building services solutions.
These solutions then worked hand in hand with such areas as natural daylight and ventilation while maximising flexibility of spaces at all times.
