MasterCard has accredited TÜV SÜD Product Service to provide type approval testing and certification of MasterCard Contactless Readers v3.0 (“MCL 3.0,” formerly referred to as PayPass Reader v3.0”).
TÜV SÜD has invested over £100,000 in the new service. This includes a robot that simulates how a card would be used by a purchaser in a contactless transaction by physically presenting tests cards and mobile devices against payment terminals multiple times.
TÜV SÜD already manages MasterCard’s Global Terminal Quality Management (TQM) programme, approving Quality Management System in place for Level 1 products by performing factory audits of terminal manufacturers across the world.

TÜV SÜD is an accredited EMVCo Level 1 and Level 2 testing laboratory with more than 10 years’ of experience in the payment systems market, testing products, such as vending units, electronic point of sale (EPOS) and automatic teller machines (ATM).As an independent third-party test and certification body, specialising in innovative products, TÜV SÜD is authorised to carry out testing for payment systems devices against the harmonised debit/credit EMV standards.
