What is Multiphase Flow
Viscous liquids are often present in multiphase fluid streams, either occurring naturally or artificially blended. Multiphase flow occurs in many industries including food and drink, and pharmaceutical where blending occurs as part of the manufacturing process; although there has never been any real demand to meter the individual phases or components in these industries. However, multiphase fluids are becoming increasingly common in relation to hydrocarbon recovery, whereas more heavy oil reserves are being exploited, the raw production fluids are extracted as a mixture of heavy oil, water and gas. As fields become more economically marginal there are growing demands to meter the individual components of multiphase fluid stream.
