EXPERT PROFILE | Dr Michael Reader-Harris
Who is Michael?
Michael Reader-Harris read maths at Oxford and has a PhD from St Andrews. He has worked in flow measurement for over 35 years particularly in the area of differential-pressure meters: he derived the orifice plate discharge coefficient equation in ISO 5167-2:2003. He was Chairman of the ISO Flow Measurement Committee, TC 30, from 2002 to 2016. He is Chairman of ISO/TC 30/SC 2 (differential pressure meters), and has been Chairman of OIML TC 8/SC 5 (water meters) since 1995. In addition to his work on single-phase flow (including CFD, installation effects, flow conditioners, subsonic nozzles and the effect of static hole error on Venturi tubes) he works in wet gas and was Convenor of ISO/TC 30/SC 2/WG 15, which produced ISO/TR 11583. He is Project Leader of the project to produce ISO/TR 21354 on multiphase flow measurement. He has published 90 papers and a book, ‘Orifice plates and Venturi tubes’ (Springer 2015).
