A key dissemination route for much of the research that comes out of the National Measurement System (NMS) Flow Programme is through the creation and development of standards and regulations. NEL leads this work for flow measurement and globally is the leading Measurement Laboratory in this respect.
Within the Flow Programme, a number of NEL scientists are involved in national and international standards committees. They work with these committees to disseminate the outputs of NMS Programme research. They also support government and industry by providing independent expertise, supporting fair trade and providing technical leadership in priority areas.
NEL activities include:
- Chairing and participating in top-level international, national, sector-based and industry Standard Committees and Working Groups
- The production of new standards and significantly upgrading existing standards.
- The harmonisation of standards to ensure consistency.
- Providing significant technical expertise and support at national (BSI) and international (ISO, OIML) level for the development of new and existing standards.
