Unique capabilities of AMF highlighted to Oil & Gas Focus Group
In August, almost 60 delegates from the oil and gas industry joined colleagues at the Oil and Gas Focus Group (OGFG) meeting held in Aberdeen. A highlight in the event calendar, the OGFG meeting is an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge and build relationships.
Delegates heard from TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory’s Multiphase Section Lead, Aidan White, on the brand new Advanced Multiphase Facility which is set to open shortly. Aidan described the market need for a new high-pressure, high-flowrate facility and the challenges experienced during the build and commissioning phases. “This is an exciting time for us” commented Aidan. “As we get closer to launch, this was a great opportunity to present our new Advanced Multiphase Facility to the delegates at the Oil and Gas Focus Group. With an operating envelope 20 times larger than anything else in the world, it really is a unique facility for the oil and gas industry to get excited about.”
TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory Consultant Engineer and OGFG Chair, Chris Mills, also presented a session on the influence of zero stability and turndown on Coriolis meter performance and provided recommendations on best practice for successful operation.
These presentations were complemented by a varied and informative range of talks from industry, with the day’s agenda providing an overview of current trends and challenges for the oil and gas industry in the world of flow measurement. In particular, the optimisation of calibration intervals was of interest to the delegates.
“The presentations at this focus group were of a very high standard” commented Chris. “It was a very well attended focus group meeting and I think that’s testament to the relevance of the high-quality presentations.”
And the delegates agreed. “The presentations were all very interesting. I learned a lot, and had some great conversations before, during and after the meeting” said Colin Lightbody, SGC Metering Ltd. Another attendee, Nadya Pashnina from Emerson Automation Solutions commented: “I try to attend most of the events and find it very beneficial from content and networking point of view.”
The Oil and Gas Focus Group is supported by the UK Government's National Measurement System (NMS) and is managed by TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory on its behalf. The next OGFG meeting is scheduled to take place in Aberdeen on the 4th of December. Click here for more details.
