Digital technology delivers savings for meter certification projects
Two international companies have recently taken advantage of the MeterVue remote-access monitoring system and its new live video streaming facility.
“Both clients used our services as part of meter certification projects,” says Water Facility Technical Lead, Damian Krakowiak. “In both cases they were very pleased with the results. Using MeterVue saved them significant amounts of money, particularly on accommodation, travel and staff time.”
The first client was an independent specialist that supplies metrology testing, certifying and training services. They used NEL’s facilities to calibrate a family of electromagnetic flow meters for a Chinese manufacturer.
“The company needed to get the meters certified in accordance with the requirements of OIML R49,” Damian explains. “The client was happy for us to do the necessary calibration work without their supervision provided that they could witness it using our MeterVue system and observe the tests at first hand using our video streaming facility. The MeterVue system sent them data straight to their desktop and they gave us instructions over the system’s chatroom function.”
The client used the data NEL’s tests provided, along with extra information relating to fluid properties and reference instrumentation, to write up the necessary certification reports.
The second client was a pioneering technology provider that serves a global customer base. They asked NEL to test a new range of Coriolis meters. As with the other project, they wanted to certify their meters to the OIML R49 standard.
MeterVue has been in operation at NEL since 2013. It allows engineers to remotely witness calibration tests at NEL’s laboratories in real time wherever they are in the world. It also provides a secure home for test data and certificates and has delivered significant efficiency and cost saving to many industry and research clients.
