2019 is an exciting year for us.The brand-new Advanced Multiphase Facility (AMF) will open very soon, complementing the existing suite of flow measurement facilities at TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory. With an operating envelope 20 times larger than anything else in the world, it is a facility with unique capabilities in terms of flowrate and pressure range.
Earlier this year, two Joint Industry Projects (JIPs) were launched for the oil and gas sector.
The first, Establishing the True Performance of Multiphase and Wet Gas Flow Meters in the Upstream Oil and Gas Sector, will be a complete performance review of multiphase and wet gas flow meters, from installation to fluid properties effects. This JIP was driven by a demand of the field end-user to compare new flow meter products, including some non-radioactive and potentially disruptive solutions, with those already established and on a facility that is totally new for all flow meter manufacturers.
The second JIP, Reviewing the Performance of Water Cut Meters (Water Holdup Meters) in the Upstream Oil and Gas Sector, will use a new method of analysis developed at the UK’s National Flow Measurement Facilities; 2D, 3-phase High Frequency X-ray Tomography, to test various water cut meters on the market and assess their performance against water content, salinity change, crude oil and gas content.
A recent webinar to launch these JIPs generated substantial interest from oil and gas operators and meter manufacturers from across the globe. “We are delighted with the level of interest shown for these JIPs to date” commented Scientific Advisor, Dr Bruno Pinguet. “This situation is unique; a brand-new facility capable of handling from 15 bara to 150 bara, from two inches to larger than 12 inches on the full range and with no previous testing or tuning of any flow meters on the facility. These JIP’s will provide exclusive data on a range of meter types.”
With the extensive testing for these JIPs to be carried out at the ISO 17025 certified UK National Flow Measurement Facilities in East Kilbride, industry partners are assured of high-quality data and expertise.
