A recent project for a leading, multi-national oil and gas refining company has shown how TUV SUD NEL uses its knowledge of flow measurement, standards and regulations to help end-users meet regulatory requirements and choose the best possible measurement solutions.
“The client in this project was having issues with the proving of a turbine meter that was installed on one of their UK sites,” explains Researcher, Chris Mills. “They asked us to come in and provide consultancy services to help with the technical issues they were facing and to provide in-depth advice on meeting their regulatory requirements.”
As part of this consultancy work, Chris looked at the past performance of the meter and at current process conditions. He then assessed whether it would be best to replace the equipment and, if so, what size of device and type of technology would be the most effective replacement.
“The flow rate through the meter had dropped since it had been originally installed,” Chris explains. “I therefore recommended a smaller meter of a similar technology type. I then advised on the calibration intervals and uncertainty levels that would be required to meet all necessary regulatory requirements. This allowed the client to move forward and make the necessary changes to their turbine meter system.”
